Cooperative Fraud Accused Appointed Minister in Bagmati Province

Makwanpur. A minister has been appointed in the newly formed government of the Bagmati Province government who is facing cooperative fraud charges. Gyan Bahadur Tamang, who is facing cooperative fraud charges, has been made a minister by the UML. He has been appointed minister in the government led by Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar of Bagmati Province. Tamang, who became a proportional member of parliament from UML, has been made a minister without portfolio. He has been made a minister with the understanding that his departmental responsibilities will be assigned in a few days. He is accused of embezzling more than two billion rupees of cooperatives. Tamang, who was appointed minister in the Bagmati Province by UML, also took the oath of office on Thursday. He has currently been given charge at the Chief Minister's Office. Tamang is a person involved in the embezzlement of two billion rupees of National Namobuddha Cooperative. The Bagmati Province Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Ministry had declared his cooperative as problematic on Poush 29, 2081. Tamang is a director of Namobuddha Cooperative. After being accused of fraud, Tamang remained out of contact for a long time. The office of Namobuddha Cooperative is located in Samakhushi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-29. Rajkumar Lama has been the chairman of the cooperative since Poush 29, 079. Before that, Tamang was the chairman of the cooperative. During his tenure as chairman of the cooperative, Tamang purchased 44 ropanis of land in Thansing, Likhu Rural Municipality-9, Nuwakot, by luring depositors with high interest. He had taken a loan of 14 crore rupees in the name of the cooperative by mortgaging the same land at the National Cooperative Bank, and the current officials, including Rajkumar Lama, who became chairman after Tamang, continued the same. Tamang, who was the chairman of the cooperative from 2072 to 078, has been accused of embezzling funds immediately after leaving the cooperative. The members of National Namobuddha Savings and Credit Cooperative have claimed 1 Arba 8 crore 64 lakh rupees from 964 members.
