Leachate is flowing from towering piles of waste at Bancharedanda. The dam built to collect it has filled up, and contaminated liquid has begun flowing into the Kalpu River.
When the wind blows, the smell of rotting waste reaches nearby homes. Crows and kites circle above the landfill and sometimes drop pieces of dead animals outside people’s homes.
