Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Elected 23rd President of Bangladesh

Dhaka. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who has been active in Bangladesh's politics for a long time, has now reached the country's highest constitutional position. 78-year-old Alamgir has been elected the 23rd President of Bangladesh by the parliament. He defeated opposition candidate and retired Colonel Oli Ahmed in the presidential election.
In the election, Alamgir received 255 votes while Oli Ahmed got 88 votes. Alamgir won by a wide margin of 167 votes. Out of a total of 349 voters, 343 MPs cast their votes, while 6 MPs did not participate in the voting.
