Eastern Japan Hit by 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake, 23 Injured

Tokyo. An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck eastern Japan on Sunday morning. At least 23 people were injured in various four prefectures due to the earthquake. Officials said most of the injured are in stable condition. There is no threat of a tsunami after the earthquake.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake was centered in Ibaraki Prefecture at 2 AM local time. The depth of the earthquake was about 70 kilometers below the epicenter. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the initial intensity of the earthquake as 5.8 magnitude.
