Thailand PM Calls Security Meeting After 51 Coordinated Attacks in South

Thailand. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has called an emergency meeting with high-level security officials on Sunday after 51 locations in Thailand's southern three provinces experienced bomb explosions, arson, and vandalism overnight. He discussed the security situation with security agency chiefs amidst the flood crisis in the north. The incidents in Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala left three civilians injured. Most incidents involved small bomb explosions, arson, and property damage. The arson at a 7-Eleven store in Pattani and the bomb explosion on the railway in Narathiwat were major events. The damage to the railway has affected local and long-distance train services.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the incidents. However, the Barisan Revolusi Nasional Melayu Pattani (BRN), an insurgent group active in southern Thailand, is suspected of carrying out such attacks. BRN has been demanding greater autonomy in the Muslim-majority southern provinces and has been engaged in peace talks with the Thai government.
