Flood Causes Billions in Insurance Claims in Nepal

Kathmandu. A devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers on Wednesday, August 26, caused great loss of life and property. The rescue operation is still ongoing on the eighth day of the flood. Thousands of people have gone missing due to the flood, and there has been unimaginable damage to physical infrastructure.

The flood has caused extensive damage to hydropower projects, public infrastructure, and private property. After this disaster, how the insurance claims for the damaged physical infrastructure and human casualties will be paid and how many claims will be filed has become a matter of public concern. Preliminary estimates suggest that the disaster has caused billions of rupees in damage across the country, and the process of receiving damage details (claims) at insurance companies has begun.
