MP Indira Rana Magar Demands National Hero Status for Nirmal Purja

Kathmandu. National Independent Party MP Indira Rana Magar has demanded that Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, who died in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, be declared a national hero. She made this demand while speaking at Tuesday's House of Representatives meeting. Purja's body, who went missing after being caught in an avalanche during his ascent last Thursday, was found on Monday. MP Rana Magar stated that Purja had made a significant contribution to making Nepal known worldwide through his adventurous world record. She also expressed heartfelt condolences to Purja and all those who lost their lives in the avalanche on Broad Peak. Speaking at the meeting, she said, 'Nirmal Purja has succeeded in making Nepal known around the world.' She further added, 'I want to demand that the state recognize such a person as a national hero.' Purja had set a world record in 2019 by climbing all 14 of the world's highest mountains above 8,000 meters in just over six months. The world's 12th highest mountain, Broad Peak, is considered one of the most challenging mountains to climb.
