Karnali local levels use fixed deposits to keep vulnerable girls in school and curb child marriage

Local governments in Karnali are placing Rs 30,000 in fixed accounts for at-risk girls, aiming to secure their education and discourage early marriage.

Ten-year-old Sangita Bayak of Chaukune Rural Municipality-5, Gutu, Surkhet, is currently in Grade 5. Her younger sisters, Tulsi Bayak, 10, and Rabina Bayak, 8, are in Grade 4. Their childhood, however, has been marked by hardship. After their father died when they were very young, their mother remarried, leaving the three sisters in the care of their paternal aunt, Pushpa Bayak.
