Kathmandu. The family had already given up hope for Chandika Shrestha after her house was swept away by a severe flood in the Bhote Koshi river in Rasuwa. After eight days without any trace, the family had already begun her funeral rites, making a effigy of Kush. However, on the 11th day after the flood, rescuers found 64-year-old Chandika alive while the death rituals were underway.
Shrestha, a resident of Bidur Municipality-10 in Nuwakot, was rescued by a team led by Armed Police Force Inspector Suman Bik. She was found in a semi-conscious state from the house of Anand Shrestha in Betrawati Bazaar. After the rescue, she was brought to the military hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu, after initial treatment at the Nepali Army's Maibal Barracks in Trishuli via helicopter.
