China's Tibet Autonomous Region Reports Landslide Aftermath: Residents and Tourists Safely Relocated

Kathmandu. Chinese officials have stated that all residents and tourists affected by the devastating landslide in Kerung (Gyirong) County, under Shigatse in China's southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region, have been safely relocated. Local officials have provided information that 499 local residents and construction workers affected by the landslide that occurred on Wednesday morning in the Kerung port area have been safely resettled. Similarly, 555 tourists stranded at the scene have also been rescued and transferred to a safe location. Officials state that there are no longer any tourists stranded in the area. According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, the rescue and relocation of tourists were coordinated by cultural and tourism officials. Affected local residents and workers in the construction sector have also been housed in safe accommodations. China's civil aviation authority has also been mobilized to intensify rescue and relief efforts in the landslide-affected area. By Thursday afternoon 3 PM, 324 rescuers had been transported to the affected area via civil aviation services. Similarly, Xinhua reported that 24 tons of rescue equipment, daily necessities, and medical supplies for rescue and relief have been delivered to the affected area. These materials are being used for the relocation of affected residents and emergency rescue operations. According to the latest details, Chinese officials have stated that three people have died, 558 are still missing, and two local residents have been rescued alive. It has been reported that search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the affected area.
