Elephants Return to India After Month-Long Stay in Jhapa

Jhapa. Elephant activist Shankar Luintel informed that a group of 22 elephants that had been staying in various community forests of the district for the past one month returned to India this morning.

The herd of elephants, including calves, had been causing daily disturbances in areas like Bahundangi and Shantinagar. The elephants were destroying houses of local residents, eating and trampling standing paddy crops, and breaking betel nut trees, forcing residents of the northern-eastern parts of Jhapa to live in fear and stress for a long time.
