CPN UML Withdraws Representative from Constitution Amendment Debate Panel

Kathmandu. CPN UML has withdrawn its representative from the constitution amendment debate panel. UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel informed the panel convenor Asim Shah by letter on Thursday that Dr. Bhishma Adhikari, who was a member of the panel from the party, has been recalled.

Although Adhikari participated in the initial meetings of the panel, he had stopped participating in recent days. UML states that the panel's work and actions have been suspicious from the beginning, the issues for constitution amendment have not been specified, the government's stance on the fundamental structures of the current constitution is not clear, and the issues brought into debate for amendment appear to be against the federal democratic republic, and despite demanding clarification of the government's role, no hearing has been given.
