South Korea to Resume Rail Project Connecting to North Korea

Seoul. South Korea is set to resume work on a section of the railway line that could connect to North Korea's eastern city of Wonsan. The Ministry of Unification of South Korea announced on Wednesday that this project, which has been stalled for about a decade due to long-standing tensions between the two countries, is being revived.
Minister of Unification Chung Dong-yong informed a meeting at the presidential office that the reconstruction of the fragmented section of the Gyeongwon railway line near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) bordering North Korea will commence. This project was initiated in 2015 but halted in 2016 following a deterioration in cross-border relations.
