Communist Party Criticizes Government's Inaction on Dalit Upliftment, Demands Action on Land Rights and Border Issues

Kathmandu. The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has objected to the fact that although various programs have been introduced by governments so far for the upliftment of the Dalit community, which constitutes one-fourth of Nepal's total population, concrete achievements have not been made. In the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, CPN MP Ganesh Bishwakarma, recalling the efforts made during the tenure of former prime ministers, demanded the announcement of a Dalit Rights Decade and the creation of integrated laws in accordance with the spirit of Articles 24 and 40 of the constitution. He drew the government's attention to the formation of a Dalit Development Authority and the implementation of plans with budget.

MP Bishwakarma expressed concern that although the liberation of Kamaiya, Kamalari, Haliya, and Haruwa-Charuwa has been announced, their rehabilitation work is still incomplete. 'By 2030, the rehabilitation of all bonded laborers must be completed, establishing the identity of a country free from bonded labor,' he said. Similarly, he demanded that a concrete plan be brought to permanently solve the problem of Dalit landless and squatters.
