Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor Appointment Process Stalled Due to Candidate Questions

Kathmandu. The process of appointing the Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University has become complicated. The appointment process has been affected after questions arose about one of the three candidates recommended by the selection committee led by Education and Sports Minister Sashmit Pokharel.
The committee had recommended the names of Prof. Dr. Balchandra Luintel, Prof. Dr. Vivek Baral, and Prof. Dr. Rajendra Joshi to Prime Minister Balen Shah, who is also the Chancellor of the university. Among these three recommended candidates, questions have been raised about ethical and financial irregularities concerning Prof. Dr. Baral. For this reason, the appointment process has not moved forward for the time being, and further study is being conducted on this matter, informed an official from the Ministry of Education. According to him, after questions were raised about Baral, the ministry has corresponded with the university seeking necessary documents. Prof. Dr. Luintel, among the recommended candidates, is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the university, while Prof. Dr. Baral is from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Joshi is also a professor at the same university.
