Kathmandu. Former Chairman of the Telecommunications Authority, Bhupendra Bhandari, who was arrested in the Smart Telecom case, has been ordered released on bail by the court. After the hearing on Friday, Kathmandu District Court Judge Umanath Gautam ordered Bhandari to be released on a bail of 25 lakhs. The police investigation concluded that the property of Smart Telecom, which has been closed since Baishakh 2080, should have come under the government's name, but it was auctioned off with the intention of severing the Nepal government's rights through deceit in collusion with Chairman Bhandari and others. CIB had arrested Bhandari on the 15th of Shrawan and investigated. The auction process of Smart Cell's assets had moved forward when he was the executive chairman of the authority. The police investigation has shown that the equipment of Smart Cell, which should have come under the ownership of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority after non-renewal, was illegally auctioned and sold by the accused in a way that severed the government's rights. In this case, the government lawyer had named 22 people, including Bhandari, as defendants. The court has ordered the issuance of arrest warrants against defendants including Jyoti Prakash Pandey, CEO of Nepal Investment Mega Bank, in accordance with Section 57 of the Muluki Criminal Procedure Code, 2074.
