Hamas Leader Travels to Cairo for Gaza Talks Ahead of Kushner Visit

Gaza Strip. Hamas political leader and chief negotiator for Gaza talks, Khalil al-Hayya, has departed for Cairo, the capital of Egypt, to discuss the latest situation in Gaza. According to sources affiliated with Hamas, al-Hayya will hold a meeting with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad on Sunday morning. This is al-Hayya's first visit to Egypt since assuming leadership of Hamas at the end of July.

Al-Hayya's visit to Cairo comes before the tour of West Asia by US President Donald Trump's envoy and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Kushner is scheduled to visit Israel and Egypt next week. It is expected that efforts will be made to reduce the differences seen in the Gaza plan during this visit. He will be accompanied by the UN's Special Representative for Gaza, Nikolay Mladenov.
