Chinese Container Ship Departs on Arctic Route to Europe

Beijing. A Chinese container ship has departed for Europe via the Arctic. The new weekly service is expected to halve the shipping time between China and Europe. However, environmental groups have warned that this could put further pressure on Arctic sea ice.

The ship, named 'Dubai Tower', departed from China's eastern port city of Ningbo on Saturday evening, heading north. The ship will travel via the Bering Strait and then through the Arctic waterway along Russia's northern coast to the west.
