Kathmandu. Nag Panchami, celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Shravan, is being observed by Hindus across the country with reverence and devotion today. It is customary to worship the snake god by pasting a picture of a snake on the main door of houses and offices on this day.
Waking up early in the morning, bathing, and worshipping lamps, kalash, and Ganesha, a picture of a snake is pasted on the main door of the house using cow dung. It is a religious belief that worshipping the snake deity by offering curd, durva grass, kusha grass, vermilion, and sandalwood on the snake's diagram will protect the house from the fear of poisonous creatures like snakes and scorpions throughout the year. Additionally, it is believed that worshipping snakes in this manner can also protect from the fear of fire, clouds, and lightning.
