Roads Blocked Across Nepal Due to Floods and Landslides

Kathmandu. Various major highways and road sections across the country have been obstructed due to floods and landslides. Nepal Police, updating the details as of 6:30 AM on Monday, stated that dozens of road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces are closed. The recent continuous rainfall has made it difficult for passengers to reach their destinations, and alternative routes are being used in some places. On the Prithvi Lokmarg under Bagmati Province, the road in Chalise, Gajari Rural Municipality-2, Dhading, has been completely blocked since 5:45 AM on Bhadra 1 due to floods. Considering the potential risk of floods and landslides, night-time vehicle operation has been prohibited on the BP Highway, which runs through Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katunjebesi in Kavre, and on the Kanti Lokpath, which comes to Lalitpur via Hetauda-Thingan in Makwanpur. The police's updated details mention, 'Considering the potential risks, all vehicles are prohibited from operating on the BP Highway from 6 PM to 4 AM and on the Kanti Lokpath from 5 PM to 5 AM until further notice.' Similarly, the Arniko Highway is completely closed in Kodari and Liping, Sindhupalchok, due to landslides. In Khalte, Uttargaya, Rasuwa, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road section has also been completely blocked since Shrawan 8 due to floods. In Koshi Province, the Mechi Highway in Rajduwali, Ilam, is completely blocked due to continuous rainfall. However, arrangements have been made to use an alternative route for travel. The Khandbari-Kimathanka road section in Sirek Danda, Bhotkhola, Sankhuwasabha, is also completely closed. The Madhyapahadi Lokmarg in Bokhim, Bhojpur, has been brought into one-way operation after clearing landslides. Under Gandaki Province, the Beni-Jomsom road section has been completely closed due to a landslide in Ruse, Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi. However, on the same road section, vehicles are operating one-way at Kaiku Khola in Mustang. The Besisahar-Manang road section is completely obstructed due to landslides in Rambazaar, Marsyangdi, Lamjung, but an alternative route is available. The Kaligandaki Corridor and Baglung-Beni road sections in Baglung are also open only one-way due to landslides. Police have clarified that it will take time to open them for two-way traffic. In Lumbini Province, the Bhringri-Swargadwari road section in Rumale, Pyuthan, which was blocked by a landslide on Shrawan 31, is still completely closed. In Karnali Province, the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section, under the Bheri Corridor, has been obstructed in two places due to floods and landslides in Rukum West. The road is completely closed at Rijegard Khola and Piplachaur in Athbiskot. Similarly, the Rapti Highway is completely blocked due to a landslide in Aringale, Kupande, Salyan, according to data from the Department of Roads and Police. Although concerned bodies are making efforts to clear the blocked roads, continuous rainfall is hindering the work.
