65 Years of Crisis in Nepali Journalism: Always in the Crosshairs of the State, Rebels, and Protesters!

Kathmandu, 24 Sep 2025 : Whether it's movements for political change, non-political protests, or violent activities, the first profession to be targeted is journalism. Not only in Nepal but throughout various periods in world history, there is a long record of journalism and journalists being targeted by both state powers and rebels.

The Gen-Z protest of September 8 and 9, which left 74 people dead and caused an estimated 500 billion Nepali rupees in damage to public and private property, continues to cast a shadow. Authorities are still investigating how the demonstrations escalated into such widespread destruction.
