Ministry Claims Over 5.5 Lakh Metric Tons of Chemical Fertilizer Supplied

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has claimed that more than 5.58 lakh metric tons of chemical fertilizer have been supplied so far in the current fiscal year. Minister Gita Chaudhary made this claim while responding to questions from members of the National Assembly during Thursday's session. According to her, out of 5.58 lakh 5 thousand 22 metric tons of fertilizer supplied in the current fiscal year, 4.68 lakh 16 metric tons have already been sold and distributed to farmers. She informed that there are currently 1.38 lakh 8 hundred 2 metric tons of fertilizer in stock in the country, including those in warehouses and those yet to enter the system after arriving in Nepal. Minister Chaudhary stated that the target is to provide approximately 6 lakh metric tons of fertilizer to farmers as a subsidy by the end of Ashad in the current fiscal year, claiming this to be the largest supply volume to date. She clarified that regular follow-ups are being made with suppliers to implement agreements to ensure no fertilizer shortage across the country targeting the upcoming paddy season. As a result, the government estimates that an additional approximately 90,000 metric tons of fertilizer will arrive from Ashad to Shrawan. Informing about the ministry's preparations, she said in parliament, 'I would like to inform you that approximately 6 lakh metric tons of fertilizer will be provided to farmers as a subsidy by the end of Ashad in the current fiscal year, which is the highest volume to date. The ministry is making various efforts and preparations to ensure there is no fertilizer shortage during the upcoming paddy season. In this regard, I would also like to inform you that we have already urged the fertilizer suppliers with whom agreements have been made to supply fertilizer on time. As a result, we expect approximately 90,000 metric tons of fertilizer to arrive in Nepal from Ashad to Shrawan.' Minister Chaudhary also informed that the government has implemented a one-door system to ensure equal and systematic distribution of fertilizer to farmers. She also stated that the 'Fertilizer Management Information System' has been brought into operation, allowing the general public to easily view all details and information related to fertilizer through the use of digital technology.
