Madhesh Province Faces Severe Water Crisis Due to Drought and Lack of Rainfall

Kathmandu. For the past two-three years, drought and lack of adequate rainfall in Madhesh Province have caused a severe water crisis across the entire Terai region. Due to the rapid decline in groundwater levels in all eight districts of Terai-Madhesh, the general public is forced to face an extreme water crisis.
According to the field study report recently published by the National Assembly's Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, groundwater levels in the districts of Madhesh have dropped by an average of 2 to 3 meters, and by more than 3 meters in the western districts.
