Norwegian Princess's Son Marius Borg Hoiby Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Two Rape Charges

Kathmandu. The district court in Oslo, the capital of Norway, has convicted Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Norway's Crown Princess, on two counts of rape and sentenced him to four years in prison. The 29-year-old Hoiby was informed of the verdict via video link without being present in court. The court acquitted him of two other rape charges, but convicted him on several other criminal charges. According to the court, Hoiby raped a woman in 2018 at the royal residence area in Skaugum. He has also been convicted in another incident involving a woman in Oslo in 2024. The charge of abusing his ex-girlfriend and Norwegian influencer Nora Haukland has also been proven. However, the court acquitted him of two other rape charges that occurred in the Lofoten Islands in 2023 and in a hotel in Oslo in November 2024. The case involved 6 women, only one of whom was present in court during the verdict. The prosecution had sought a prison sentence of 7 years and 7 months for Hoiby. His lawyers argued that an 18-month sentence would be sufficient. They have stated that they will appeal the verdict. Hoiby's mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is suffering from a serious lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis. She has been placed on the lung transplant list. The family had been requesting Hoiby's release due to his health condition, but the court has not accepted it so far. According to Norwegian legal procedures, Hoiby can now exercise the option to appeal the sentence.
