Mohammad Jayanti is an important festival celebrated by the Muslim community with devotion and enthusiasm. It is believed that Hazrat Muhammad was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in the Islamic Hijri calendar, to Bibi Amina. He passed away at the age of 63 in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Mohammad Jayanti is also known as ‘Eid Milad-un-Nabi’ and ‘12 Rabi' al-Awwal’. Traditionally celebrated for centuries, the year 2083 B.S. marks the 1,501st birth anniversary of Hazrat Muhammad.
The Nepali Muslim community also observes this festival as ‘Mohammad Day’. On this day, Muslims express joy and remember the teachings and messages of Hazrat Muhammad. They recite the Quran at mosques, organize communal meals, and exchange greetings with one another.
The festival plays an important role in promoting unity, brotherhood, and mutual harmony within the Muslim community. On the occasion of Mohammad Day, social and humanitarian activities are also given importance alongside religious observances. People donate to the poor and underprivileged, the helpless and orphans, clean their homes and surroundings, hoist Islamic flags, and light lamps, among other activities. In this way, the Muslim community celebrates Mohammad Jayanti by combining religious faith with social harmony and a spirit of service.
