Protest Against Social Media Ban Marks One Year Anniversary

Kathmandu. One year has passed since the movement that started from Maitighar demanding good governance and protesting the ban on social media has created a new political stir in Nepal. The protest against the ban on August 23, which started spontaneously, changed the very outline of Nepali politics.

Thousands of students and youths were marching from Maitighar, expressing dissatisfaction with corruption, political accountability, and lack of opportunity. The protest, called for 9 am, gradually moved towards Parliament House Baneshwor after 11 am. The Maitighar-Baneshwor stretch, which always saw protests under various banners and party flags, experienced a completely different scene that day.
