Government Committed to Addressing Gen-Z Protesters' Demands, Says Minister Gautam

Kathmandu. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam has stated that the current government is fully committed to addressing the demands of the martyrs and injured of the Gen-Z movement. Speaking at a program organized by the Gen-Z Martyr Welfare Society on the occasion of Gen-Z Martyr Day, she urged for trust in the government. Informing that discussions regarding the demands related to the movement are being held daily, Minister Gautam said, 'On this memorial day, we must all resolve that no one in this country will ever have to face the fate of the 23rd, no mother will have to face it, no family will have to face it.' She added, 'You have many demands. To address these demands, we, the ministers in the current government and the members of parliament, are consulting almost every day.' Acknowledging that it took some time to understand the working methods within the government structure, she said that they share the same pain as the victims. Recalling that citizens were shot in a democracy on August 23 last year, she clarified that no one would have to face such a fate again. She stated that citizens had to face bullets while raising their voices against corruption and for good governance in the country. She mentioned that the events of the 24th were a consequence of the state's repression on the 23rd of August, and therefore, the events of both days should not be viewed in the same light. Warning that opponents of the movement would benefit if divisions and accusations increased within the Gen-Z community, she urged the martyr families, the injured, and the protesters to stand together. Minister Gautam said, 'If we start fighting among ourselves, if we start blaming each other, the opponents will gain space. Therefore, the right people must stand together.' She stated that the current government is ready to listen to the voice of the citizens as the people chose their leadership through the elections after the movement. While mentioning that operating the government has not been easy in the approximately five months since its formation, she clarified that despite having a sufficient number in the House of Representatives, there are challenges in lawmaking due to the constitutional structure. Acknowledging the possibility of patience wearing thin due to delays in addressing demands, she requested patience, stating that work is being done with good intentions. Minister Gautam said, 'This government has come with good intentions. This government is fully committed to fulfilling every dream seen by our martyrs and injured friends. Trust this government, this government will do it.'
