Devotees Throng Pashupatinath, Shiva Temples Across Nepal on Shrawan Shukla Purnima

Kathmandu, August 28: Devotees have thronged major Shiva temples across Nepal, including the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, since early Friday morning to perform rituals and wear newly consecrated sacred threads and Raksha Bandhan (sacred wrist threads) on the occasion of Shrawan Shukla Purnima.

According to the traditions of the Vedic Sanatan faith, devotees bathe ritually in rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies using dattivan , cow dung and sacred ash. They then perform Rudrabhishek at home or at Shiva temples before wearing a newly consecrated yajnopavita (sacred thread) and Raksha Bandhan.
