9/11 Attacks: Social Media Fuels Conspiracy Theories as 25th Anniversary Nears

New York. As the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in America approaches, old television footage, videos, and pictures from that day are rapidly reaching the new generation through social media. However, as the new generation's interest in understanding the history of 9/11 grows, conspiracy theories and false claims that have been spreading for years are also coming back into discussion.

On September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers associated with Al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger planes. Two of those planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The third plane hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C., while the fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Approximately 3,000 people died in the attacks.
