MP Ashuda Kumari Baral Faces Rape and Murder Threats from Rastriya Swatantra Party Cadres

Kathmandu. CPN (UML) MP Ashuda Kumari Baral has drawn the government's attention, stating that she is receiving threats of rape and murder from cadres of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party. She made this attention-grabbing statement while speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Friday. She stated that she has been subjected to cyberbullying simply for demanding the swift rescue of flood victims in Rasuwa. She urged the government to take swift action against those involved in verbally abusing and threatening women. She stated that the government should be serious about the problems faced by flood-affected women, new mothers, and other victims. She questioned whether the government's policy is such that women have to give birth on the street and jump into rivers because they cannot get gas. Speaking in Parliament, MP Baral said, 'Honorable Speaker, how should I be respected? Is it the government's policy for women to give birth on the street, for new mothers to jump after not getting food, and to set themselves on fire?' Clarifying the cyberbullying she experienced, she added, 'Through the Honorable Speaker, I want to draw the government's attention, why is cyberbullying happening at such a time? There are no examples of others; there are thousands of messages saying I will rape and kill you.' Pointing out that she received threats for demanding rescue, she said, 'Should I be a victim of cyberbullying just because I asked for a quick rescue? Government, take action against those who verbally abuse women; otherwise, these are the things you taught yesterday, they must end today. There is abuse happening with the photo of a bell, the government's attention is drawn.' MP Baral drew the government's attention to control such activities, stating that abusive activities are being carried out on social media by posting photos of 'bells'.
