Kathmandu. Scientists have identified a glacier collapse, rather than an earthquake, as the likely trigger of Wednesday’s devastating flood along the Nepal-Tibet border, highlighting the growing risks posed by rapid changes in the Himalayan cryosphere.
The disaster was initially believed to have been triggered by an earthquake and subsequent landslide. At least 177 people have died in the disaster.
