BRICS Summit Declaration to Oppose Imposing War Unilaterally

New Delhi. The joint declaration to be issued from the 18th BRICS Summit being held in New Delhi, India, is likely to oppose the act of unilaterally imposing war without naming any specific country. The BRICS group of 11 member countries has agreed on the draft of the declaration, citing Indian media The Times of India. Discussions are ongoing among member nations on recent global and regional developments at this summit chaired by India. The finalization of the declaration has been challenged by disagreements between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As both countries are on different sides regarding the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region, member nations are trying to find common ground acceptable to both. According to Reuters, the declaration is being prepared to convey the message that war should not be imposed unilaterally and international peace should be maintained, without directly blaming any country. India assumed the chairmanship of BRICS on January 1, 2026. India had previously chaired BRICS in 2012, 2016, and 2021. The main theme of this year's summit, organized on the occasion of BRICS' 20th anniversary, is 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainable Growth'. Currently, BRICS has 11 member nations: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are partner nations. Amidst rising geopolitical tensions and trade sanctions globally, BRICS is seeking to build a common stance.
