Nepal's Rasuwa Region Hit by Devastating Snow-Tsunami

On 083 Bhadra 10, at 8:37 AM, a snow-tsunami struck Rasuwa, Nepal. A massive rock mass suddenly fell from an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters on the Langtang-Lirung Himal. This was not just a natural disaster but also a geophysical crisis resulting from the melting of Himalayan permafrost.

The northeastern slope of this snow-tsunami was geologically extremely sensitive. Here, a rocky section about 600 meters wide suddenly detached from the bedrock and fell 1,200 meters directly into the narrow gorge of the Lende River. This was not a normal landslide or glacial lake outburst flood, but a high-mudflow flood formed by melting permafrost, which took on a destructive tsunami form in the coastal areas.
