Nepal Faces Severe LPG Gas Shortage Amidst Import Failures

Kathmandu. It has become commonplace to see long queues of consumers in front of gas depots in Kathmandu since morning. Consumers are waiting in line for up to a week with empty cylinders, but the depot operators have only one answer - the gas truck has not arrived. There is no possibility of gas arriving immediately.
The government is failing in gas management. Industry, Commerce and Supply Minister Gauri Kumari resigned. The main reason for her resignation appears to be her inability to manage gas supply. She had stated in discussions with businessmen and in parliamentary committees that 'gas will not be easily available until the gas businessmen are severely dealt with'.
