Wild Elephants Destroy Homes in Kanchanpur; Child Drowns in Canal

Mahendranagar. A herd of wild elephants destroyed two houses in Pillaryfanta, Shuklaphanta Municipality-8, Kanchanpur today. Local Niraj Japrel informed that a herd of wild elephants destroyed the houses of Surya Chaudhary and Mahesh Nepal of Shuklaphanta Municipality-8. The herd of elephants is still in the Baijanath Community Forest near the village, he said. The local residents are in fear as the elephants have started entering the settlement and destroying houses. Division Forest Office Kanchanpur's Forest Officer Laxmiraj Joshi said that monitoring has been increased in the area where the elephants are located in coordination with the local administration. He stated that coordination is being done with Shuklaphanta National Park and security agencies to drive away the elephants.
