17th World Tiger Day Celebrated Globally

Kathmandu. The 17th World Tiger Day is being celebrated today to make the global community aware of the conservation of endangered tigers and to reiterate the collective commitment to conservation.

As the number of tigers worldwide is rapidly declining, the 'Global Tiger Initiative' in 2010, under the 'St. Petersburg Tiger Summit' held in St. Petersburg, Russia, decided to celebrate July 29 as 'World Tiger Day' to enhance public awareness about tiger conservation and strengthen international cooperation for conservation. Since then, Tiger Day, celebrated annually, is not just a formal event for Nepal but also a day to celebrate the historic success achieved in the field of conservation.
