Surkhet. Mangal Bahadur Shahi has been appointed as the fifth Chief Minister of Karnali. Province Chief Yagyaraj Joshi appointed Shahi as Chief Minister on Tuesday in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Shahi has the support of 24 provincial assembly members, including 14 from his party, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), and 10 from the ruling coalition partner, the CPN-UML. In the 40-member Karnali Provincial Assembly, a minimum of 21 seats are required to form a government. Shahi, who received the support of the UML, has become Chief Minister within 4 years of entering parliamentary politics.
