Three Arrested in Kathmandu for Overcharging Tourists and Assaulting Police

Kathmandu. Police have arrested 3 individuals for overcharging foreign tourists and threatening them at various dance bars, clubs, and restaurants in Kathmandu. A team from Police Circle Lainchaur was dispatched after receiving information that the operators and staff would assault and harass those who protested overbilling. They were arrested after they verbally abused and assaulted the police on duty while trying to mediate, and harassed ordinary women with abusive language. Those arrested include Kumar Parajuli, 28, a staff member of 'Night Entertainment Club and Dance Bar', originally from Bhumlun-10, Kavrepalanchok and currently residing in Boudha, Kathmandu; Roshan Basnyat, 24, a staff member of the same bar, originally from Galchhi-11, Baglung and residing in Machhapokhari, Kathmandu; and Susan Giri, 26, manager of 'Hollywood Dance Club', originally from Manthali-9, Ramechhap and residing in Tarkeshwor, Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Police Complex stated that an investigation is underway with permission to extend their detention from the Kathmandu District Administration Office under the offense of indecent behavior. The detention period extended was 3 days for Parajuli and Basnyat, and 1 day for Giri.
