JSP Nepal MP Demands High-Level Commission to Study Communal Tensions

Kathmandu. Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal MP Mohammad Khalid has demanded the government form a high-level inquiry commission to conduct a deep study of the recurring communal tension incidents in the country. He made this demand while speaking at a National Assembly meeting on Friday. He warned that communal frenzy is fatal for any society and nation. He commented that the state's response to reduce the tension that arose in Madhesi districts including Sunsari and Siraha was delayed. He claimed that if the government had shown the sensitivity it is showing now two days earlier, the situation might not have become so complicated. MP Khalid praised and thanked Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane for his role in maintaining social harmony. He mentioned that a serious investigation is necessary into the reasons for such incidents repeatedly occurring in the Terai-Madhes region and stated that it is not appropriate to blame any one community. Speaking in the National Assembly, MP Khalid said, 'Communal frenzy is not good for any society and for the country.' He added, 'If any problem arises, it should be resolved in time.' Speaking about the state's weakness, he said, 'The state has faltered somewhere in this matter, it must be accepted.' He further said, 'The government must be sensitive to ensure that such things do not happen in the coming days.' Commenting on the government's activeness, he said, 'If the sensitivity that the government is showing now had been shown two days ago, perhaps the incidents would not have escalated like this.' He added, 'I want to praise the RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and also thank him.' Raising the question of the recurrence of incidents, he said, 'Why are such incidents repeatedly happening only in Terai-Madhes?' He further said, 'Such incidents have happened before, and there is a possibility of them happening in the future.' Proposing the formation of a commission, he said, 'In my opinion, a commission of inquiry should be formed for this and a deep study should be done.' He added, 'Why is it happening? It is not appropriate to say it is because of this community or that community.' Raising the issue of constitutional supremacy, he said, 'The state must establish constitutional supremacy and the rule of law against whoever is against citizens and social harmony.' He warned in the end, 'If the state fails in this, the country will have to pay a heavy price.' He emphasized that the state must take action against whoever is involved in activities against the security of citizens and social harmony, based on constitutional supremacy and the rule of law.
