For decades, Nepal's medical education sector was plagued by uncontrolled commercialization of seats, arbitrary fee structures, extreme lack of transparency in counseling, and 'under-the-table' seat transactions. This prioritized financial access over academic merit.

To clean up this distorted system, senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda KC launched a series of hunger strikes, risking his life. Through his struggle, the National Medical Education Act, 2075, and the Integrated Medical Education Commission were born.
