US Public Opinion Shifts Dramatically on Israel, Netanyahu Faces Growing Scrutiny

The United States has historically had bipartisan support from both major parties for Israel. That is, Republicans and Democrats have shared common ground on this issue. However, recent assessments suggest that the relationship between Israel and the overall United States is not progressing as harmoniously as before.

In this context, Benjamin Netanyahu is embarking on his latest visit to Washington D.C. with the expectation of strengthening the indispensable alliance between Israel and the United States. However, public opinion polls present a starkly altered picture of the relationship between these two countries. A poll by The Economist/YouGov, released on July 28, indicated that 49 percent of Americans believe the Israeli Prime Minister should be arrested based on an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. Even more notably, 47 percent of Americans believe Netanyahu has committed war crimes in Gaza.
