Finance Minister States Government and Political Parties Pledge Joint Commitment for Flood Victims

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has stated that the government and political parties have made a joint commitment to the rescue and relief efforts for the victims affected by the Bhote Koshi flood in areas including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. Wagle, who participated in an all-party meeting called by RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday, said that everyone has pledged to stand together in times of national disaster. “The Nepali political character is also developing where all parties come together in a time of national crisis and provide solutions. On behalf of the Government of Nepal, I and the Home Minister participated and presented our views. Not just the entire government, but all political parties have made a common resolve for relief, rescue, and management,” he said. “A resolve has been expressed to carry out relief, rescue, and rehabilitation work. Not only the entire government, but all political parties and society need to be involved.” He informed that the focus is currently on initial rescue and relief, and thereafter the government will focus on the management of the victims. He provided information that 22 helicopters are currently deployed in the affected areas. “The rescue operation, which started with two helicopters, now has 22 helicopters mobilized. We are working to gather foreign aid. The World Bank has pledged to provide 25 billion in assistance. Proposals for assistance have come from international missions including China, India, and the Asian Development Bank,” Wagle said.
