Ukraine Claims Drone Strikes on Russian Oil Refineries and Ship

Kyiv. Ukraine has claimed drone attacks on three Russian oil refineries and one sanctioned cargo ship. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian drones successfully attacked three oil refineries in Russia's Bashkortostan Republic. The refineries are located about 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine's border and are said to have the capacity to process millions of tons of oil annually. Zelenskyy also claimed that the sanctioned Russian container ship named Yanina sank in the Black Sea after a Ukrainian drone attack. However, the Russian company operating the ship stated that it only carried civilian goods such as frozen food and construction materials. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Russia's controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost external power supply for about two hours. This is said to be the 23rd such incident since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. Although the power plant was shut down, external electricity is required to operate the cooling system to keep the nuclear materials there safe. Ukraine has been continuously attacking Crimea's energy and supply systems, causing long-term electricity and fuel shortages in many areas there. As a result, ordinary people have had to queue on the streets to get hot food cooked in communal kitchens. According to local residents, it has been difficult to cook at home due to the lack of electricity for many days. Meanwhile, the death toll in Ukraine's capital Kyiv from Russian attacks has increased, and in Crimea, ordinary people have had to queue for long periods for food due to electricity and fuel crises. At least 9 people were killed and 33 injured in the missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia in Kyiv on Friday night. Two people died when a five-story residential building was damaged in the Solomyanskyi district. Seven more people lost their lives and 14 were injured in the Darnytskyi district. Rescue teams have reported safely evacuating many people from the building. President Zelenskyy has once again urged the international community to provide more Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine was only able to shoot down one out of 27 ballistic missiles fired in the latest Russian attack, and the lack of air defense systems is causing significant loss of life and property.
