Provincial Governments Face Uncertainty Amidst Coalition Formation Delays

KATHMANDU. Nine days have passed since the agreement between CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) to form new coalition governments in the provinces. However, the process of forming provincial governments remains uncertain.

The expansion of provincial governments has not been possible due to unnecessary interference from the party center and internal disputes within the parties at the provincial level, leading to growing public disappointment with the provincial structure. An agreement was reached between CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on August 9th, consisting of 3 points. According to the agreement, new coalition governments were to be formed in five provinces.
