Kathmandu. CPN UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that Nepal's leftist movement has almost distanced itself from the mainstream of national politics. Speaking at a discussion program organized in Kathmandu on the occasion of the 24th Botle Smriti on Monday, General Secretary Pokharel said that the communist movement has reached this stage due to the inability of youth to be attracted to it. "At one time, there was about 60 percent vote in favor of leftist parties," he said, "but today we are almost distanced from the mainstream of national politics." He stated that the current state of Nepal's communist movement is not even in the first or second, but in the third and fourth position. He also said that the presence of young people in communist programs has almost stopped. "Our politics, appeal, and working style have not been able to attract the youth. To say more, the young generation that has grown up with smartphones, which seeks quick results," said General Secretary Pokharel.
