Supreme Court Rules 40% Threshold for Party Split Reinstated

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court, in its verdict on the dispute related to the division of political parties, has interpreted that the provision of the original law (40 percent provision) will automatically revive after the temporary ordinance becomes ineffective.

A full bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Sunil Kumar Pokhrel, and Meghraj Pokhrel, while delivering a verdict on the division and registration of political parties, has canceled the registration of the 'Janaswaraj Party'. The Supreme Court, in its verdict, has interpreted that the provision of the old law automatically becomes active after the ordinance is canceled.
