Kathmandu. Labour Culture Party MP Dhruvaraj Rai has stated that farmers are in great distress due to the menace of monkeys in the country and suggested that 600,000 monkeys need to be killed to solve the problem. Speaking to journalists on the premises of the Parliament building, he argued that this drastic step is necessary to solve the farmers' problems as monkeys are destroying their crops. When asked about the accusation of killing 600 monkeys, MP Rai admitted that he did not kill them directly but helped the public in killing monkeys. Targeting the protests by animal rights activists regarding animal rights, he urged them to understand the practical problems. He argued that 'animal lovers' are protesting at Maitighar, but the real problem lies in the farmers' cornfields and cardamom groves. Speaking to journalists, MP Rai said, 'I did not kill them, the public killed them and I helped in that. Not 600, now 60,000,000 monkeys need to be killed, only then there will be peace. Monkeys destroy cardamom sprouts worth millions in an instant. Farmers are crying bitterly. In such a situation, we should not cause suffering to the public by listening to laws made by foreigners and NGOs/INGOs.' MP Rai also clarified that he is not afraid of any legal action or going to jail regarding this issue. He stated that people who fought for system change in the past are not afraid of complaints. He challenged those advocating for monkey conservation to go to the villages' cornfields and villages to understand the real situation of the farmers.
