16 Dead, Dozens Injured in Two Separate Road Accidents in Bangladesh

Kathmandu. Two separate road accidents in Bangladesh on Friday killed 16 people and injured dozens, officials said. Nine people were killed in a road accident when two passenger buses collided with each other around 7:30 AM local time in the Sylhet region, about 240 kilometers northeast of the capital Dhaka, said Sylhet District Police Deputy Superintendent Chowdhury MD Jabir Sadek. According to Police Deputy Superintendent Sadek, eight people died on the spot and one person died during treatment at the hospital while injured. Fourteen more people were injured in the accident, and two of the injured are in serious condition. Similarly, in another road accident in Bogura district, about 197 kilometers northwest of Dhaka, seven people were killed and 15 were injured, said local fire service and civil defense office official MD Shahidul Islam. He said the accident occurred at 5:30 AM and the speeding bus went out of control and hit a group of roadside workers. He added that all the injured have been taken to local hospitals and clinics.
