Dhangadhi. Khagraj Bhat of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has staked a claim for the formation of a new government in Sudurpashchim Province before Provincial Chief Nazir Miya. Bhat staked his claim on Friday morning at the Provincial Chief's office with the support of the CPN UML. After Kamal Bahadur Shah's resignation as Chief Minister was accepted, Provincial Chief Nazir Miya had called for claims for the appointment of a new Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution on Thursday. According to a press release issued by the Provincial Chief's office, Chief Minister Shah's written resignation from the post of Chief Minister of the Provincial Government in accordance with Article 169 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Nepal was accepted, effective from Shrawan 28. With the acceptance of the resignation, the Provincial Chief had called for the Provincial Assembly member who could secure a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the Provincial Assembly to stake a claim for appointment as Chief Minister. The deadline for staking a claim for the formation of a new government before the Provincial Chief was 11 AM on Friday, Shrawan 29. The Provincial Chief's office stated that in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution, the Provincial Assembly member who can gather the necessary majority to form the government must submit a claim with the support of the concerned parties.
