Cricket Association of Nepal Bids Farewell to National Men's Cricket Team

Kathmandu. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has bid farewell to the Nepali national men's cricket team. At a farewell program organized in Kathmandu on Friday, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka bid farewell to the team, wishing them success. At the farewell program, Secretary Khadka informed that significant changes have been made to the structure of Nepali cricket. Accordingly, the captaincy of the national team's One Day International (ODI) format has been given to Sandeep Lamichhane. Earlier, Rohit Paudel used to lead. Secretary Khadka clarified that the decision to appoint separate captains for two formats has been taken keeping in mind the needs of modern cricket, the workload of the players, and the goals of the 2027 and 2028 World Cups. Secretary Khadka said, 'Rohit Paudel is Nepal's most successful captain and we have achieved historic successes under his leadership. However, this change in leadership has been made for future planning and team development. We believe this will create a more competitive environment in the team and provide opportunities for young players.' Informing about the Nepali team's upcoming schedule, Secretary Khadka said that the team is scheduled to depart for India on Friday. After special preparation in India, the team will directly go to Malaysia from there. The ACC Premier Cup to be held in Malaysia is considered very important for Nepal, as this competition is also the basis for Asia Cup qualification. He said, 'Our main goal is to qualify for the Asia Cup and improve our ODI rankings. Although Nepal has performed excellently on home soil, similar results have not been achieved on foreign soil. Our goal now is to perform excellently on foreign soil as well.' CAN has now put forward a plan to focus not only on 'management' but also on the 'development' of cricket. Secretary Khadka mentioned that cricket is a team sport and the victory of the entire nation is more important than that of any individual. He also expressed gratitude to the government, National Sports Council, sponsors, and media personnel for supporting the national team. The Nepali team has prioritized the ACC Premier Cup as well as the ICC World Cup League-2 matches and the 'A' team tour of Australia. CAN expects patience and continuous support from all stakeholders to take Nepali cricket to new heights in the coming days.
